No you need an HD-DVD or Blu-ray player depending on the type you buy.

Both are essentially useless if you dont have a HI-Def capeable tv.

What do I need for surround sound from my TV? Can I use my PS3 or do I need an amp? Asda (Walmart) have some speakers for sale, there’s also an HDMI DVD player for sale too with ‘surround out’, would I need this?

Your best bet is go to walmart and get Panasonic SC-PT670 1000W DVD Home Theater System

Just get a hdmi cable and connect it from your ps3 to the Panasonic and another one from the panasonic to your tv … Bam Surround sound and lots of it …

If it is region 0 it will work anywhere. best thing to do is hit the “ask a question” howeverton and get the information from him/her

We bought the 40656 for our grandson’s birthday, and it worked fine with the DVDs we had already, BUT when we tried a new one that was another birthday present it wouldn’t work. Since then we’ve tried several brand new discs and they won’t play either.

I know they flew off the shelves when they went on sale, and now I’m wondering whether someone else has tried theirs and found it to be OK, or whether they are saving them for Christmas.

it says on the dvd (player) box that it up converts dvd’s?? Now i keep seeing HD DVD’S for sale and am a bit confused,do i need to buy these new dvd’s to get a better quality pic or normal dvd’s ok? Why they keep changing it all the time bloody money grabbers? Please help Mr confused

Just because your DVD player has an HDMI output doesn’t mean it will play HD DVDs. If it *is* an HD DVD player then you won’t notice any real difference if you play a normal DVD. Play an HD disc.

It will “upscale” normal DVDs for your HD TV. i.e. make the picture higher resolution by stretching it.

I was under the impression that HD DVD was going to die, and BluRay was going to be the accepted standard for high definition DVDs?
