What do you expect Blackpool and other touristy places are well known for selling tat.Trading standards won’t do anything as most of these trade clearance centres up and move quickly or state in the small print that things are sold as seen, and if your items are working nothing illegals took place.

Q&A: Career Advise Please?

Question by Barrie H: Career Advise Please?
I am 29 years old..
I have a degree in IT however my last few years work have been in sales.
I have always had trouble looking inside for the correct path and over the past few months I have been looking inside for what I want to do deep down rather than just following the crowd.
I have always been really good at setting up sound systems and tv’s and dvd players for families and friends etc.
For example, if a family member has a new dvd player.. however wants it setting up through a surround system and has not got a clue… It would take me 5 mins to do it, as I just have a natural understanding of how these things work.
Setting up tvs, dvds, surround sound systems might sound like a bit childish and a bit silly.. however I have the experience over the past few years to know that alot of people simply do not understand how to use their tv’s dvd’s etc to their full potential.
How would you advise I do next?
Sorry for such a direct question.. however is there such a career out there?
If there is something out there… where would i start to look to get qualified or get started.
I hope you can help and thank you in advance

I don’t know how things work across the pond. But here in the states, when you buy a big screen tv or a stereo system, the stores have people that come in & set them up. So you might try that.
Or you could also go into business for yourself. Advertise in various web sites, newspapers, magazines, & say you will install & set up these tv, stereo & sound systems.

Q&A: HD, Blu Ray, HDMI and the unanswered question – WHY?
November 25, 2011 by

Question by JJ: HD, Blu Ray, HDMI and the unanswered question – WHY?
Me and three Uni. mates have recently come home from a year working in Japan and decided to rent a place together. So we got all our stuff out of storage and, after a month of celebrating our return, moving in, and just about every other excuse we could think of ,it was finally time to set up the TV properly in time for the NHL playoffs.
This caused a problem – between the four of us, our living room looked like the tv section at pcworld, and worse, the girls had better kit than the guys. Now obviously there is nothing wrong with that, however male bonding was needed to restore the man-pride – a weekend mission to find and buy the best set up we could afford, and as a house of hockey nuts this was seen as an investment. Then there was a problem – my flatmate wanted us to get a hdmi cable that cost 1/5th the cost of the tv. Even I thought this was madness, Oddly the commission based sales assistant disagreed.
I lost. We helped that sales assistant pay for his degree. But not being one to give in, and having little else to do that afternoon, we agreed to test all the kit – how bigger difference do you actually get from HD?
We tested all our connections, blu rays, dvds, scarts, hdmi’s, you name it, it was there – our pride and joy in a sea of cables, and the difference? well what was the point?
1) up-scaling dvd player – the picture through the scart connector and the hdmi was the same.
2) blu ray player – played dvds exactly the same as the dvd player, played blu rays really well, however there wasn’t a great difference in picture over the dvd and the sound was exactly the same to our ears. Don’t get me wrong – blu ray looked better… however worth the money difference? no way.
4) The ps3 – composite and HDMI looked better than scart, however the same as each other and the scart picture wasn’t that bad – you’d never sit there thinking ‘I need to improve this’.
HD tv – this was the one area that mattered – compare a hd flat screen to the old crt and the difference was huge – what ever you connected, the picture looked better in every single way over our older tvs and non- hi def flat screens.
It surprised both of us how little ‘noticeable’ difference there was. I think we’d both got sucked into the hype about it all at the moment, and i was wondering if someone else has got their new kit home and been surprisingly underwhelmed? – don’t get me wrong, like I said, the TV is amazing, and all the HD bits that go with it are better, they just aren’t a ‘how did we cope before’ moment.
So have you been disappointed like us? or do you think i’m wrong and hi def changed you’re life?

Answer by john313181
I AGREE WITH YOU.sorry about the caps, there is to much hype about the benefits of HD tv ,picture is better however not as good as i expected or was led to believe it was, i use the Sky dish and the HD box however not greatly impressed with it , however when i go onto the Freeview channels the picture is a vast improvement, and to date this area is not fully upgraded for the Freeview, another thing i found out is ,check your signal input channel on your HD- TV, I was advised to do this by a Sky engineer and change the input channels until i got a sign telling me i was on 1080 dpi as this is the channel for using the HD with, if you are using the scart lead, your tv will automatically go onto AV input mode, but if you switch it to the 1080 dpi HD input channel there is a vast difference in the picture and sound, my TV is a Sharp HD 1080 ready set and channel input no 5 is the only one which shows me i am getting the full HD signal ,it can get bloody confusing at the best of times, good luck with it.

How to sell your stuff quickly and a good price?

Question by lexi: How to sell your stuff quickly and a good price?
Hoping to move abroad soon and want to sell most of my stuff. Ebay is a really slow process so I don’t want to sell them on a betting site. Other than a garage sale, which isn’t going to happen, what else could I consider, meaning not sly remarks
Just what other sites I could get quick cash back. It will cost me more to transport these things, than just buying them in the country. TV, HIFI system, laptop, dvd player, so yeah mainly electrical. I know I won’t get much for them however am hoping to get the best deal possible. The furniture I’m giving to friends. Thank you

Can’t decide between two 22″ HD TV’s…?

Question by Jamie: Can’t decide between two 22″ HD TV’s…?
It’s my birthday on Thursday and I’m being given £250 to buy a TV for my room which I will be using for both Freeview & a PS3. I’ve brought it down to 2 specific ones, so please don’t advertise me other ones lol ![]()
Firstly a UMC 22″ from www.comet.co.uk
Advantages: Is the only (and I mean only) 22″ TV in my price range that has 1080p HD qualilty. I am using this for a PS3 so that could come in very handy even thought the TV is small. Although it’s a little more expensive it really looks worth it, and it also has a built in DVD player, which could come in handy.
Disadvantages: It is from a company I haven’t heard of before so it may not last as long, and if it brakes then we have no idea who to go to if comet don’t replace it. Also looks like there could be small (fixable) sound issues. 4.8/5 on the site: http://www.comet.co.uk/shopcomet/product/503487/UMC-L216-22B
The other TV is BUSH 22″ in the sale from Argos for £195.69.
Advantages: It’s a BUSH TV so at least I know the company. It is more popular and has more accurate reviews and comes with guarantee.
Disadvantages: I can’t seem to find a wall mount for it and it only goes to 720p HD which means some of my PS3 games will downgrade from 1080. No built in DVD. Around 4.4/5 on the site:
http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/5294062/c_1/1%7Ccategory_root%7CHome+entertainment+and+sat+nav%7C12108813/c_2/2%7Ccat_12108813%7CTelevisions%7C12108983/c_3/3%7Ccat_12108983%7C14+inch+to+24+inch+LCD+TVs%7C12108998.htm
I know it’s a bit to read however I’d really appreciate any feedback and advice on which one to buy, thanks a lot!

Any sudden reason for this to happen?

Question by thinpinblue: Any sudden reason for this to happen?
I have just purchased a CD that came with a free DVD. It’s on sale nationally in the UK. When I try to play it in my Panasonic DVD player & recorder, I get a message saying its the wrong region. I have never had this happen before My other DVD’s work perfectly OK. I tried the DVD on a neighbours player of exactly the same make and it plays perfectly. Would this suggest i may have altered a setting accidentally or what. I explained over the phone to the tech dept of the store where i bought the player,(John Lewis) and all they could say is that they were baffled
The DVD does say after the title NTSC
Best answer:
Answer by Arnak
Hi,
NTSC, named for the National Television System Committee is the analog television system used in most of the Americas, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Burma, and some Pacific island nations and territories (see map). NTSC is also the name of the U.S. standardization body that developed the broadcast standard.[1] The first NTSC standard was developed in 1941 and had no provision for color TV.
So you have a region 1 dvd not region 2 as required in the UK.
It probably played on your neighbours player as it may be all region.
